The Extended French Program begins in Grade 5 and continues up to Grade 12. The program provides students with the means to develop more advances French skills, enabling them to communicate effectively in speech and in writing, as they receive 1,900 hours of instruction by the end of Grade 8.
French Immersion is a Canadian educational program designed to give students whose first language is not French the opportunity to learn in the French language. The 91̽»¨ School Board is pleased to offer the French Immersion Program starting in Grade 1 at eight school sites. Students registered in this program will spend 90% of their day learning in the French language.
The Adult and Continuing Education Department offers classes for elementary and secondary students in 27 languages on Saturdays through the school year.
The Dufferin Peel Catholic District School Board offers support to students whose first language is a language other than English or is a variety of English significantly different from that used for instruction in Ontario schools.
French as a Second Language (FSL) Literacy Night: Supporting Families Enrolled in French Language Programs
On November 29, 2023, 91̽»¨ parents of students currently in/or entering elementary French Language programs (Core, Extended, and Immersion) were invited to attend a one-hour virtual event.
The goal of the event was to equip parents with tools and resources to support their child in developing listening, speaking, and reading skills in French language programs.
